Text Me Back – A Poem

Do you remember,

when we spent our nights intertwined?

With my hair in your mouth

And feet touching feet

Our milky skin brushing on cotton sheets…

I spend my nights sending texts

Alone in bed

Hoping soon I will be next to you.

It’s hard to pretend

But I’ll still try

To build a body from your 3 word replies.

There are many things I can’t replace,

So, I hope that a text will fill this space

That you’ve left empty.

What I’m saying is,

You should text me back.

Because it’s bed time

And I’m counting days instead of sheep.

Because if you don’t say goodnight I might not sleep.

Because I need to know that when the night comes

You want to lie your body next to mine.
